Multi-Texting is the newest Buzzword ! !

Have you ever heard of the term, Multi-Texting?  Multi-Texting is big everywhere.

In the brief time I've been on Facebook I've come across a few, shall we say, nerve wrecking situations that I quickly had to master. One of those situations would be learning how to multi-text.

When an individual is on Facebook he/she has the option of clicking on the chat box and then having a "live" conversation with any of friend also on Facebook at the same time. Generally, a person would not choose to chat with more than one person at a time, but since all ones friends that are on at the same time can see that you are on also, it is quite possible to find yourself involved in more than one conversation at the same time.

Before "compute chatting" came along the desire to communicate with someone would result in a face to face conversation, or a phone call, or maybe a letter sent in the mail. In most cases, if you are talking face to face with a person, it wouldn't be considered polite for someone else to walk up and start talking about something totally different.

Not so on Facebook. One may be having a nice chat with a friend about the sale at Kohl's yesterday and suddenly another chat box pops up, and a different friend is asking if your son whom you posted earlier as being ill is feeling better. The first time something like this happens you may be thinking

"Ok, I can do this. Thank God, I learned how to type properly in high school"

Because, hey, if you are still using one finger to type, Honey, you are gonna be there all night. Just a word of advice; If you are still "hunting and pecking" your way through a sentence, maybe multi-texting isn't for you.

Now, if you happen to be playing a game on Facebook or making various comments to postings, it then becomes multi-tasking while you are multi-texting. And if you are really good, it's possible to even talk on the telephone or quiz your daughter on her spelling words at the same time! I know I can't be the only one that has ever done this.

Can I get a witness? How many times have you seen someone texting in public while doing something else at the same time? Maybe while shopping or, God forbid, while driving?

Even in the small town of De Soto, Missouri, where I live, the art of multi-texting is a way of life. It's how people communicate, how they conduct business. I would venture to say most, by the age of 18, know how to text like pros. Most schools even have a "no cell phone" policy in place because most kids will text messages all day if allowed.

So, we can all agree, talking via the internet is a way of life today and multi-texting is probably as common as breathing to most. Every time I get on the computer I end up chatting with more than one person at some point. How has this impacted our lives? For me it has meant being able to keep in touch with people I probably wouldn't take the time to call on the telephone every day. I feel my mind is quicker and sharper form it and, of course, I can type faster now. What's next on the agenda? I can't imagine, but throw it at me anyway and I'll eventually learn to do it!
